Posted on August 19, 2009
Advent Altro Notebook was announced by Advent recently. It is a highly portable, slim mobile computer which costs less than £600. With a thickness of just 2.1cm and a weight of 1.6kg, this notebook will surely be easy to carry around. Moreover, this portable PC also incorporates the anti-shock technology which protects it from drops and jerks.
It has a 13.3” widescreen monitor. Intel’s CULV (Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage) processor is used for the internal processing. A 3GB RAM and a 120GB hard drive are housed in this notebook. It will initially ship with Microsoft Windows Vista OS, and will allow upgrading to Windows 7 when this new OS will be released.

Like many of the other slim beauties (Apple MacBook and Dell Adamo), the Advent Altro too does have the charm to impress anyone at the first sight. It has a metallic finish. Along the sides are 2 USB ports, an HDMI port, a headphone socket and a multi-function port which lets you hook up an external port replicator. The touchpad of this laptop has multi-touch capability, like the iPhone. A finger-print scanner is present as well. A web camera is also packed in.

The Advent Altro 13.3” Laptop supports Bluetooth as well as WiFi wireless technologies. The battery employed in it gives a life of about 4 hours.
This notebook is supposed to be available in the market by next Monday (24 August 2009).
A more enhanced version of the Altro called Advent Elite, is also expected to be available in the market at the same time. It will feature a faster processor (Intel Core 2 Solo chip), a longer battery life and will have a flush glass finish. It is speculated to sell for a price of £800.
