When you say ‘a new tablet’ henceforth, there will be no escape from a comparison with the Apple iPad. The Archos 7 Home Tablet also gets this treatment. It is much smaller than the iPad with a 7″ TFT LCD screen. And when it comes to features, the iPad beats it hands down. Then why buy the Archos 7? Well, for its price. It is equipt with quite a satisfying set of features for its price tag. This gadget mainly focuses on entertainment.
Archos 7 specs
The touchscreen offers a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It can display 16 million colours. A 600MHz ARM Cortex processor is incorporated within. Internally this tablet has 8GB of flash memory.
The operating system it runs on is from the Linux family (ANDROID™ 1.5). However, this is reportedly not Google-approved. Hence, it does not come with the Android Market built in. It also does not support all Android apps. Instead it packs in access to the Archos application store called AppsLib. Browse the web, email, watch online videos and more with this tablet. WiFi [802.11 b/g] is compliant.
Entertainment – You can watch movies and videos on this tablet. 720p high definition videos are supported too. You can even listen to music on the go. There are 2 built-in speakers and a headphone jack as well.
