16:9 Aspect Ratio Screens In Laptops

Laptops and notebooks are now widely sought after by the computer users for reasons best known to all. The bulky desktops with ancillary fixtures like CPU, UPS, Modem and complicated cable connections are found not suitable for the modern hectic lifestyles. Busy schedules of working lives require portable devices which are compact and convenient. As in the case of computers the laptops etc are also used for downloading movies and for gaming. The multifarious purposes of the device naturally should have features that can complement variety of usages.
Aspect Ratio of a display screen is an important factor in providing crisp and clear images. Aspect ratio, to be precise represents the proportion of height and width of the image appearing on the screen. In the early models of computers it was very common to have 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratios. The shape of the screen will be almost like a square. In the later periods aspect ratio of 16:9 became prevalent making the screens rectangular. Progressive changes took place in the technology effecting radical alterations in the formats and shapes of the display screens. With the advent of HD TV, the standard became 16:9, both in the video input and in the display screen. Even though aspect ratio of 4:3 is still in vogue in the production of many programmes, 16:9 is widely preferred for want of compatibility with the downloading data like movies and games. The widescreen format is found more compatible to watch movies and for gaming. It is for this reason that Home theatre applications are of 16:9 aspect ratio. DVDs are also now available in widescreen formats.
Non-compatibility of the telecasted programme and the display screen in respect of aspect ratios will cause distortions of the images. For example, if the programme is in 4:3 aspect ratio and the screen is in 16:9 aspect ratios, the images will be distorted. Differences in the aspect ratio of a programme and a screen will result in dark boarders appearing on the sides of the screen. In the modern days most of the programmes like movies are shot in 16:9 aspect ratio. It is therefore necessary to choose a television, computer, PC or Laptop with widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) format. A widescreen notebook will have enhanced screen size as large as a widescreen LCD television. As for entertainment a widescreen DVD movie in 16:9 aspect ratio will offer a larger image which is comfortable to view. There will not be any black boarder formation on the screen and the images will appear in its fullness. However, 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen laptops or notebooks are expensive. Further programmes like gaming in 4:3 aspect ratio, which are quite common cannot be viewed in a widescreen format comfortably.
