Intel Core 2 Duo Processor- The Ultimate Signature Of A Powerful Mobile Pc
Posted on January 5, 2009
“When one is good, two is definitely better!” Rufus was bit amused at his answer, when Lewis, asked why such a fuss on the number 2? Rufus, a college student pursuing a degree in information technology was giving a seminar to his classmates on the Intel’s Core 2 Dual Processing. Before the preparation of the seminar, even he was wondering why Intel Core 2 Duo processor is the best mobile processor till update and how does it overtake its rival AMD Turion with great ease. And after he found out the reason, he knew that the credibility of this processor is not even a bit exaggerated. He started explaining his notorious comrade that core 2 dual processing is similar to a highway with a tetra lane construction as it allows twice many cars as a double lane road and not necessarily each car should drive twice as fast. Rufus started explaining his classmates that Intel Core 2 Duo Processor provides flexible, multitasking ability and a power performance at a lower energy cost.
Why most of the powerful laptops predominantly endorse Intel’s core 2 duo? This time it was Jonathan, the gadget nut of the class, Rufus thought and answered him that the Intel Intelligent Power Capability of this brain power provides an enhanced battery life to the laptop and the Intel Smart Memory Access feature displays maximum utilization of the available bandwidth to deliver an incredible performance, while its Advanced Smart Cache feature aids in distinguishable speed. Rufus got immersed in his innermost thoughts and suddenly realized that he had missed something. He came up with his forgotten bit, cursing his sluggish memory and explained that this processors’ HD Boost feature enriches a gadget’s multimedia performance. Rufus hated the idea of explaining the features any further and to his great relief, sarah raised her hand. Great embarrassment made him to blush as Rufus realized that he was merely staring at her and was not listening to her at all. He swore to himself that this must never happen again and asked her to repeat. She said that Intel Core 2 Duo Processor was not specifically manufactured for laptops, as she owns a desktop processed by the Core 2 Duo! Rufus became aware that he was cornered and outsmarted and took steps to get smart and handle the query. He turned away from sarah and addressed the class that both desktop and laptop have the same processors with similar clockspeed but the laptop’s version runs with a lower Front Side Bus and lower voltage and as a result the laptops are 10% slower than a desktop.
Rufus started a slide show in his Intel Core 2 Duo processed Asus G50 laptop. It started displaying the microarchitecture of this processor that included 64 bit support, 291 million transistors, Dual Core Technology, Intel virtualization Technology, 2-4 MB shared level 2 Cache, execute disable bit, wide dynamic execution. He started explaining about IVT that it allows single hardware platform to function as multiple platform enabling enhanced productivity, multitasking and uncompromised security & protection is offered by its trusted execution Technology. He continued that 64 bit technology has the ability to handle 64 data packets as it supports 64 bit and 32 bit applications, precisely it can find access up to 4 GB memory in accordance with the chipset and its wide dynamic execution feature enables a gadget to accomplish 4 full fledged instructions within single clockcycle. He stated clearly that the dual core processing comes after a great refinement and constitutes of single processing block with two cores that run with the same frequency and share the level 2 cache and the FSB.
Rufus was waiting for someone to enquire about the processors’ history and his wait was soon answered by Gibson. Well, Rufus didn’t prefer it from this idiot as he and his best friend Andrews had already had fallout with Gibson and he thought it was high time to pay back and acted as if he had not heard him. Thoroughly enjoying the situation he started lecturing after long gap about the history of the processor as how it was introduced on July 27, 2006 along with its siblings that include solo (single core), Quad (quad core) and Extreme. The dual core laptop processors are code named as MEROM and PENRYN. He detailed that Merom is the first Intel mobile processor with 64 bit computing module & also the first mobile version of Intel’s Core 2 family and it was succeeded by Penryn, which flashes a 45nm construction rather than the contemporary 65nm construction. He wanted to be more informative and added on that Penryn is to be followed by its predecessor Core i7, which will have its FSB replaced by the Quick path interface and an addition of an onboard controller to it.
When Rufus concluded his seminar, which was to be continued in the next class, he was not content because he had lots, left to explain but he realized that elucidation of this ultimate signature is worth a wait!
