Until recently, online HD videos were streamed to the HDTVs from laptops using the HDMI connection. The laptops usually have an HDMI output and the TVs have the relative input. These connectors were linked via suitable cables. Even AV jacks were used for connecting laptops and televisions. But now, with Intel’s WiDi, all this can happen wirelessly.

Inorder for WiDi to word, a laptop should have the following components – select 2010 Intel Core processors, Intel high definition graphics, Intel Centrino wireless with Intel MyWiFi enabled and Intel Wireless Display pre-installed. Another important equipment required is the Netgear adapter, which is called Push2TV. This adapter should be connected to the HDMI port of the TV. It can also be connected to the AV port. WiFi is needed to do the wireless transfer of signals.

Dell, Toshiba and Sony will soon be shipping WiDi enabled laptops. These treats are said to be made available at the Best Buy stores. Some of these laptop deals will also include the Push2TV adapter for free. Otherwise, it is available for a price of $99.99 explicitly. This device can be expected in the UK in summer 2010. However, pricing and exact dates are not known yet.
