Smartbooks – The newest Mobile Technology Innovation

smartbooks - LaptopReviews.org.ukThey called it ‘Laptop’. And it was considered as one of the cutting edge innovations in the history of computers. They reduced the size of laptops and called this new gadget a ‘Notebook’. This device offered better portability than laptops, but was soon replaced by the smaller ‘Netbook’. Mobile computation was taken to a higher level by this electronic gizmo. It became so popular that it was found in every nook and corner. Now, its time to say hello to a new innovation in mobile computation – Smartbooks! Smaller than netbooks, this device, offers higher portability than netbooks, while also including all its essential features.

The best attraction of this gizmo is its price. It is expected to cost about £50 (ranging to about £100) and would hit markets by September. Aimed at consumers who require simple usage like, surfing the web, emailing or using office tools, this gadget does not house complicated circuitry for heavy applications like gaming. The programs that can run on a smartbook are relatively less power consuming ones. Lesser power consumption means longer battery lives. Hence this mini netbook is ideal for carrying along during journeys.

Mobinnova Elan and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon are 2 smartbooks that were recently presented in the Computex convention held at Taipei. The latter will be available for sale from the Asus arena, under the name Asus Snapdragon EEE PC Smartbook.

These mini workstations are supposed to feature Bluetooth, GPS, internet & email access, multimedia software for music and videos, access to social networking websites and more. The operating system will be Linux based. The ARM processors are supposed to be employed for processing.

Will smartbooks make it big in the market? Do they stand a chance against smartphones, like Nokia N97 and HTC Touch Pro2, which have a laptop-like features? Moreover, consumers are familiar with devices which use Intel processors and the Windows OS. Hence, will the toe out of the line in these aspects, work for smartbooks? We’ll have to wait and watch.

What people haven't liked are non-Windows netbooks. That is Chrome's challenge. See my post here:
