Apple Tablets Might Soon Be A Reality

July 17, 2009

Apple Touchscreen Tablet - LaptopReviews.org.ukApple Tablet rumours have been making rounds for a really long time now. However, these rumours seem to be heading toward reality. There are reports that three Taiwanese companies - Foxconn, Wintek and Dynapack have been given orders for components for the much awaited Apple Touchscreen Tablet. If these reports are genuine, Foxconn will be the tablet manufacturer and Wintek will me making the touchscreen.

The Apple tablet is expected to sport a 9.7” touchscreen. It is expected to start selling from October 2009 for a price of $800. Apple seems to want to cater to the high-end users, without setting competition to the affordable netbooks from Acer, Asus and other companies. No information has been received yet about whether this tablet PC will use the OS X or a modified version of the iPhone OS 3.0. A recent report states that while the iPhone handset offers multi-touch capability with 2 fingers, the Apple tablet is expected to accept touches from all 10 fingers. This should suit many of the quick games if true.

MacRumours.com, which closely follow Apple’s activities have a translated version of a Mandarin report from a Chinese news site which mentions about the Apple Touchscreen Netbook. Another report some time back from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster also predicts that this Apple tablet will most probably make its way to the market only during the first half of 2010.

Leaving all predictions and expectations aside, the question now that arises is whether the new tablet will be a hit like the MacBooks or the iPhone 3G? It can be a good amount of work for all the brain cells, pondering on whether it is sensible to buy the Apple Touchscreen Tablet at $800, when we have other touchscreen netbooks like Asus EEE PC T91 and Gigabyte M912X, which are cheaper and offer both laptop as well as tablet PC usage.

Apple MacBook Air Notebook - The 2009 Version

April 7, 2009

apple-macbook-air-netbook Apple MacBook Air Notebook - The 2009 VersionUltra-slim notebooks are really pleasing to the eye. They can easily capture awe and admiration by a mere glance. However, they have their own drawbacks as well. Due to the slender structure, they absent some of the features and interfaces that are otherwise present in the other notebooks.

The 2009 version of the Apple MacBook Air Notebook, is truly a beauty. With a thickness of just 0.7”, this notebook is thinner than the previous Apple Notebooks. This device is 12.8” long and 8.9” wide. A weight of just 1.3kg, a sturdy aluminium body and a compact structure contribute significantly to the portability factor too. A full QWERTY chiclet type keyboard and a multi-touch trackpad are present for feeding in data. A 13.3 inch LED back-lit screen is featured as well, which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The CPU consists of an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz processor. 2GB of RAM and 128GB of solid state storage are offered by this ultra-slim notebook. Graphics handling is performed by the Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics card with 256MB of memory allotted to videos. The Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard comes pre-installed in this extremely portable laptop. On the networking front, this mobile PC supports WiFi connectivity and Bluetooth v2.1 capability with EDR. As mentioned earlier, this notebook houses very few ports and interfaces due to its thin structure. A headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port and a mini display port are the only interfaces on board this laptop. An iSight video camera is also present in this device.

The main differences between this notebook and the previous version of the MacBook Air are that the older version shipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz processor, an 80GB hard drive and an Intel X3100 Graphics Media Accelerator.

It is quite disappointing that memory expansion slots and optical drives are not provided in the newer notebook too. You might have to explicitly buy the Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive for playing and writing CDs and DVDs or installing software. This external drive connects to the MacBook Air notebook through the USB port. Cost wise, the notebook does carry a heavy price tag too. However, considering the dimensions, design performance and speed, the latest version of Apple MacBook Air 13.3″ Notebook can surely bag good scores to top the charts.
