Gigabyte M1022 Booktop Netbook

The Gigabyte M1022 Booktop is a combination of desktop PC and netbook. It can be mounted vertically on its unique docking station, which has a VGA port, for connecting to an external monitor; 3 USB ports or other peripherals and an Ethernet connector. Thus when mounted on the docking station, it can be used as a desktop PC. Its light weight of 1.4kg and its 6-hour battery life make it quite suitable to hit the roads too.
This netbook has a 10.1″ screen which is glossy and has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It presents a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio too. The Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor handles all tasks. A 1GB RAM is housed within, which can be upgraded to 2GB as well. The Intel GMA 950 graphics chip has been integrated within for managing the graphics. A 160GB hard drive is also present. This netbook is equipt with HD audio speakers too.
The netbook itself has along its sides 3 USB ports, a VGA output, a multi-card reader, an ExpressCard slot, an Ethernet jack, audio jacks and the docking port. So really, the need for the dock is still a mystery. A 1.3MP web camera is built in as well. WiFi and Bluetooth compliance is offered. This netbook also has a SIM card slot for 3G network access. Therefore, you can have mobile broadband with this device. The Gigabyte M1022 Booktop Netbook carries a price tag of about £350, presently.
Gigabyte M912X Netbook

Gigabyte M912X Tablet Netbook is an 8.9” touchscreen handheld PC. This LCD display screen offers a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and can be rotated around and folded over for ease of use. It is internally powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor which has a clock speed of 1.6GHz. A 1GB RAM is present in this mini laptop. This can be extended to a maximum of 2GB as well. The hard drive has a capacity of 160GB. This UMPC ships with the Microsoft Windows XP Home OS.
Despite its small size, it manages to pack in 3 USB ports, a microphone jack, a headphone socket, an Ethernet connector, a VGA D-Sub port, an ExpressCard slot and a 3-in-1 memory card reader for SD/MMC/MS. This tablet PC supports WiFi as well as Bluetooth connectivity. A 1.3 Megapixel web camera has been built into it too for video calls. The battery of this portable PC delivers a 3.5 hour battery life.
There is a slot on the top-left corner of the screen panel into which the stylus that comes along with this netbook PC fits in. When using as a tablet (when swiveled and folded over), an onscreen keyboard helps enter data. The physical keyboard of this device looks ergonomic as well, with keys that are big enough to enable comfortable typing. Currently the Gigabyte M912X UMPC carries a price tag of £364.99.

Asus & Gigabyte Touchscreen Netbooks Compared

Netbooks are increasingly becoming popular owing to their size, convenience in carrying around and the various features they offer. The mobile computer market is overflowing with netbooks, from different vendors, every model trying to better the other in terms of technology and design. To stay in pace with the market trends and also to attract consumers, the netbook-making companies have to constantly innovate and improve what they have to offer. Asus recently adopted touchscreen technology in their mobile PCs, like the Dual Panel Touchscreen Notebook, Asus EEE PC T101H Netbook, Asus EEE PC T91 Netbook and Asus N20 Netbook. Samsung also recently announced their Samsung Q1EX-71G ultra-mobile PC with a touchscreen. Gigabyte’s new Gigabyte M1028 Touch Notebook belongs to this category as well. Among these the Asus EEE PC T101H Netbook and the Gigabyte M1028 Touch Netbook are 10 inchers and really make for interesting comparison.
Display screen – The Asus EEE PC T101H has a 10.2” screen with a 1024×600 pixel resolution. This is a convertible mobile PC, in which the screen can swivel around and bend over, to look like a tablet PC. One can then directly operate it with finger touches. The Gigabyte M1028 Touch Netbook is also a convertible netbook with a 10.1” touch screen, offering the same resolution.
Processor – Either of the devices employ the Intel Atom processor which has a clock speed of 1.66GHz. Hence they equal each other when it comes to processing too.
Operating system and Graphics – The Windows XP Home Edition runs as OS on both the convertible netbooks. Intel graphics processors have been incorporated in both the laptops.
RAM and Hard Drive storage – Both the laptops come with a 1GB RAM and a hard drive storage space of 160GB. The user memory can be upgraded with the memory slots available in either of the mobile computers. There is news that the hard drive of the Gigabyte M1028 Touch Notebook can be upgraded to a maximum of 250GB too.
Networking Options – The networking options are quite similar too with either mini laptops supporting both wired (Ethernet) and wireless networking (WiFi). High speed 3G technology and Bluetooth connectivity are also offered by both portable laptops. One difference between the netbooks is that the Gigabyte netbook, in addition to the above, supports 3.5G and WiMAX technologies as well.
Connections and ports – The ports and interfaces that both the touchscreen netbooks offer are the same too. An ExpressCard Slot, 3 USB ports, a VGA connection, a 4-in-1 card reader, headphone and microphone jacks.
Camera – Gigabyte M1028 netbook houses a 1.3 Megapixel camera. The Asus EEE PC T101H netbook is expected to have a camera integrated into it as well. However, the exact resolution of the camera is not known.
Battery Life – Asus promise a battery life of 5 hours for their touchscreen netbook, while Gigabyte have mentioned a life of about 4 hours for their touch notebook.
The Asus EEE PC T101H Touchscreen Convertible Netbook and the Gigabyte M1028 Touch-sensitive Convertible Netbook have almost similar features, technologies and weight. The M1028 netbook offers some additional features like WiMAX, 3.5G technology and a 1.3MP camera. The EEE PC T101H netbook is musch more sleeker compared to the Gigabyte netbook. Cost wise, the exact pricing of the Gigabyte model is not available currently. The Asus model however, carries a very heavy price tag – above £ 900.

The Gigabyte M1024 10″ Notebook made its debut appearance before the world in CeBIT 2009, Hannover in Germany. This notebook would definitely make a great travelling companion as it is highly portable, owing to its compact, thin structure and its super light weight. Yes, this remarkable little laptop just weighs 0.89kg. Sounds like it is the lightest in its category. Apart from being ultra-portable, this mobile computer also has a smart and professional look.
The 10.1 inch screen of this portable computer, offers a resolution of 1024 x 576 pixels. It has an aspect ratio of 16:9, putting it in the widescreen category. The internal processing is handled by the Intel Atom N270 processor which has a speed of 1.6GHz. The RAM that is present in this notebook has a storage capacity of 1GB. The hard drive can be chosen between a 60GB storage drive and an 80GB storage drive. This explains the light weight of this device. The hard drive capacity is much lesser when compared to other similar notebooks available in the market. The extremely portable, light and attractive looking Gigabyte M1024 890g Notebook might hit stores during the second quarter of this year.
Gigabyte M1028 Touch Notebook

Gigabyte had its latest Gigabyte M1028 10″ Touch Notebook on display at CeBIT held in Hannover, Germany recently. This tablet PC has a 10.1 inch touch screen, which can swivel around. You can use your finger tips to operate on this touch sensitive screen. The CPU of this mini laptop consists of the powerful Intel N280 Atom processor which has a speed of 1.66 GHz. This netbook also supports up to 2GB of RAM. The hard drive on board has a maximum capacity of 250GB. The Intel graphics chipset has been incorporated into this mobile PC as well. For the battery that powers this notebook, you have an option between a 4 cell 4500mAh battery or 6 cell 7650mAh battery. The operating system that runs on this netbook is the Windows XP Home Edition.
Networking aspects include support for 3.5G wireless broadband, WiFi and WiMAX. Bluetooth connectivity can be opted for as well. On the connections front, this portable PC offers the following:-
