Kohjinsha SX3 Netbook

The Kohjinsha SC3 7” UMPC was one of those tablet PCs that stole away the hearts of many reviewers, for all the features and specifications that it offered. Kohjinsha is out with a new netbook, the Kohjinsha SX3 8.9” Netbook, to recreate the magic of the predecessor. This new convertible netbook is very similar in structure, design and specifications to the previous ultra-portable PC. The main differences being the screen size, inclusion of an optical drive, dual cameras and longer battery life. This netbook has an 8.9” touch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels.

Other technical aspects have been inherited directly from the Kohjinsha SC3. The new mini-laptop also comes with the Intel Atom N520 1.33GHz processor, Windows Vista Home Premium OS, 1GB RAM and 60 GB hard drive. The networking options are similar too, with support for WiFi as well as wired ethernet connectivity. Bluetooth capability is also present. One important feature that was seen with Kohjinsha SC3 – the in-built GPS receiver, has been absented from the Kohjinsha SX3. The other connections are almost the same, with 2 USB 2.0 ports, a VGA connection, a 3-in-1 card slot, an
Expresscard/34 slot, headphone and microphone jacks.

There are 2 cameras aboard this small notebook –  one with 1.3 Megapixel resolution and the other with 0.35 Megapixel resolution. The 1Seg TV Tuner has found its way into this version of the Kohjinsha netbook too. However, this tuner is expected to work in Japan only. On the measurements front, this ultra-mobile PC measures 233mm by 191mm by 22-33mm and weighs 1.25kg. Kohjinsha SC3 UMPC

Kohjinsha SC3 Ultra-portable Tablet PC packs in a good number of features, despite being a 7” netbook. The other 7 inchers that the market has seen are:- Samsung Q1EX-71G ultra-mobile PC, Samsung NP-Q1U Laptop and HTC Shift. The most striking feature of this tablet PC is its touch screen, which can be operated either with a stylus or the finger-tips. This convertible netbook allows you to rotate the screen and fold it over the keyboard, to use like an internet tablet. The resolution that this display offers is an appreciable 1024 x 600 pixels.

On the technical front, this small laptop uses the Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz processor for internal operations. It ships with a 1GB RAM, which can be upgraded to a maximum of 2GB as well. A 60GB hard drive storage space is available too. The operating system that comes pre-installed with this ultra-mobile netbook is the Windows Vista Home Premium.

This tablet PC lets you connect to the internet using its WiFi capability. Hence you can browse the web, when in WiFi hotspots. Wireless data transfer can be achieved with the Bluetooth compatibility of this UMPC too. A GPS receiver has also been integrated into it for helping you out with understanding your surroundings better. The GrandMap PC Navi software is loaded into this mini laptop as well. However, this software caters to the navigational needs inside Japan only.

Another commendable feature of this highly portable computer is the 1Seg TV antenna that has been built into it for TV signal reception. Thus this netbook doubles for a  mobile TV too. However, this feature also seems to be feasible in Japan only. The other connections that are present in this little laptop are -  3-in-1 memory card slots, ExpressCard/34, 2 Kensington locks, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port, headphone and microphone jacks. There is a 1.3 Megapixel camera integrated into this tablet as well.

Small, compact and light, weighing just 798g, the Kohjinsha SC3 Touchscreen Convertible Netbook, comes in either black or white cases, and seems to be equipped with all essentials that make an ideal ultra-portable PC.
