January 5, 2010
Just imagine, you are working on your laptop, on a mind-racking task. After hours of grey-cell wrestling and may be some cups of coffee, you arrive at “THE” solution. It is time to run out screaming “Eureka!!!” Instead of carrying your whole laptop, you just detach the monitor and take it along with you to show off what you’ve accomplished to your fellow workers and the boss. The laptop/tablet continues to work, faultlessly, just as it did earlier, showing your brilliant results and ‘Bang!’ You are the new hero of the company and the cherry of the boss’ eye. Sounds good right?
Though this whole dream may or may not become a reality, there’s one aspect of it that is real for sure - the detaching of the display from the laptop body and its working seamlessly despite this. Perhaps some Lenovo employee must have screamed out “Eureka!!!”, when he hit upon this idea - the idea of the Lenovo IdeaPad U1.
This gadget is an innovative combination of a laptop and a tablet PC. When in its laptop attire, it uses an Intel processor, the Windows OS and weighs 1.7kg. When detached from the laptop case, it can function as a tablet PC with a 11.6″ touchscreen, a Linux based operating system, a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM based processor and weighs 0.7kg. Some other specs of this hybrid device are supposed to be 16GB of SSD and integrated 3G mobile broadband.
Lenovo have come out with something called as Hybrid Switch, which enables a transfer from one microprocessor to the other and allows seamless functionality. It has been designed to suit the dynamic lifestyles of people. Lenovo will be announcing the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 hybrid laptop at CES 2010. So its just a couple more days to go to get more details about this highly intriguing gadget.
