LG X130 Netbook Is In The Making?
August 22, 2009
LG has reportedly been busy with making their new LG X130 Netbook, which seems like an LG X110 Netbook with a few modifications. The new netbook is expected to feature the same 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, Windows XP OS and 10” screen. However, the resolution of the screen seems to have risen from 1024 x 600 pixels to 1024 x 768 pixels.
The most interesting part of the LG X130 netbook is its battery life. LG claims that this mobile computer will offer a 12-hour battery life with its 9-cell battery, for normal laptop usage, like surfing the internet or checking mails. Moreover, the battery life promised for movie-watching is about 7.5 hours! Now that’s the longest battery life for a laptop that we’ve heard till now. If this netbook sticks on the promise, it can easily become the best selling mobile entertainer. However, things can be confirmed only after the release of this portable PC.

On the looks front, the picture from Crave.CNet.co.uk, shows the LG X130 Netbook has the same plasticy finish on the outside as its predecessor. However, there is an additional chrome lining on the hinge. Again, unlike the X110 which has ‘LG’ written on the lid, the new netbook has the word ‘XNOTE’ displayed on its lid. Most probably the sequel model will also be available in the same colours – pink, white and black.

LG X110 Notebook Re-unites Grandma With Her Family
February 19, 2009
“Give me the ball! I want to play too!”, cried little Trinity in excitement. “Here, try to get it from me.”, said Sam, her older brother, as he dribbled the basket ball and dodged away. “Hey, that’s not fair. Father, look at Sam. He will not let me play.”, she said with a big frown on her face. Mr Rivers, their father, who was sitting on a park bench nearby, looked at his little daughter and smiled. He had been attending to his official work using his LG X110 Notebook. He paused for a moment, walked up to his children, bent down and put his arms around them and said, “Sam and Trinity, when you share things between yourselves, you will both be happy.”
“Alright father.”, said Sam. Then turning to his little sister, he continued, “Trinity, this is how you play basket ball. You’ve got to learn to try to take the ball from your opponent and then shoot baskets for your team. You must also ensure that your opponent does not snatch the ball back from you. Let me show you.”. He ducked and dodged with the ball, as if there were imaginary opponents around him. Trinity giggled.
Mr Rivers returned to his bench, satisfied that his children’s qualms were settled and resumed his official work. He silently thanked the notebook as he could complete his work as well as keep an eye on his children at the same time. The Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz Processor, along with the 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, Genuine Windows XP OS, Mobile Intel 945 GSE Express Chipset and Intel GMA 950 graphics card, all worked in unison to help him surf the net, collect information he wanted, download data and send emails.
The children continued to play. Sam threw the ball to Trinity who tried to ape him in the dodging and dribbling. The ball was too big for her little hands. She was having trouble controlling it. “You will learn soon.”, said the responsible and caring brother, while the sister was busy running behind the ball, which seemed be so disobedient to her.
An old lady who was sitting on another park bench near by, was looking at the children. She smiled at their
innocence. Once or twice the ball rolled over to her and she was more than happy to pass it back to the excited kids.

Dusk set in. The old woman had to get back home before it got any more darker. As she got up, taking the support of her walking stick, her spectacles accidentally slipped and fell to the ground. With a sigh of despair, she bent down and groped for them with her hands. Taking notice of this, Trinity and Sam ran toward the lady. While the brother got the spectacles, the sister helped the old woman get up. “God bless you both.”, she said, placing her hands gently on the children’s heads.
“Where do you stay Grandma?”, asked Trinity. Tears filled the eyes of the woman. She looked at the little girl lovingly. Her heart melted when she was addressed as ‘Grandma’ – the very thing she had been craving to hear for ages now. “Down the street dear.”, she said in a choked voice.
“Why are you crying Grandma?”
“I have two grand children just like both of you. But, I haven’t seen them in a long time. I haven’t spoken to them either.”, she said as she wiped a tear that had rolled down.
“But why?”
“My son works in Sydney. He is a very busy man. He seldom finds the time to visit me. So I never get to see my little grand children. It has been five years since I last met them. They seem to have forgotten me. I try to call them over the telephone, but never get through most of the time.”
“Oh!”, said Trinity as the sparkle in her eye vanished. Then suddenly, remembering something she said, “Grandma I’ll be right back. You wait right here.”
Even before the old woman could say something, the little girl had taken to her heals. She returned in a few moments with her father.
“Father, this is the Grandma I told you about. We have to let her son know that she is missing her grand children and wants to see them.”
“Well we shall surely help Grandma.”, assured her father. Turning toward the woman he said, “Please tell me if you have any contact information of your son.”
“I only have his telephone number written in my diary, which I didn’t carry with me now. But I always have problems when it comes to contacting him on that number.”
“That’s alright. Please tell me his name, I’ll try getting more information from the internet.”
“His name is Richard Clarke. He stays and works in Sydney. I do not know where he works exactly.”
They sat on the park bench. Mr Rivers opened his notebook. The stylish device with smooth corners, sat on his lap, confident and ready to go. The white shiny case of the laptop, shimmered even more in the evening sun. Sam and Trinity peered over their father’s shoulder and the old woman watched with hope at the 10” LED display of the laptop. Mr Rivers searched for ‘Richard Clarke’ first. A huge list dropped down in front of him. He then searched for popular community websites, friendly websites and chat websites of Sydney to find details of Mr Clarke. Thanks to the 3G+ embedded modem, he was able to access the Internet and get results for searches really fast. In no time, he found a community site with Mr Clarke’s information. There were many photos and video-clips of his family on the site too. Mr Rivers downloaded them in a jiffy.
“Here, have a look at these.”, he said with a smile, as he turned the compact notebook toward Grandma. She looked at all the colourful pictures of her grand-children and their parents with wet eyes. There were so many wonderful pictures which were displayed clearly on the 1024 x 600 pixels resolution screen. She smiled and whispered slowly, “Good Lord! My dear little Vicky and Ron. You have become so tall.” She touched their faces in the photos. “I feel like they are here in front of me.”, she said looking at them lovingly.
They watched the video clips too. The sounds from which were so natural and real with the SRS WOW HD, SRS TruSurround XT Stereo Speakers.
Once they were through with the photos and videos, Mr Rivers got the email ID of Mr Clarke. He created a fresh email account for Grandma and explained how she needed to use it. She listened very attentively and when Mr Rivers placed the device on her lap, she was pretty surprised at its’ light weight. In a short while, Grandma was slowly typing her first email to her son. Darkness had set in. However, they had no problems with visibility as the powerful LED backlight let them see even in the dark. The wide keyboard with responsive keys, let Grandma type her email with ease. She poured out her heart into the email, weeping sometimes as she typed. Her anxiety, loneliness, desire to see her grand children, to touch them, to watch them, to tell them stories, everything was there in the email. Finally, wishing her children the very best and blessing them she concluded the email, signing “Your ever loving mother”. Trinity and Sam watched Grandma quietly.
Mr Rivers clicked a few pictures of Grandma with the 1.3 Megapixel LG Smart Camera of the notebook. He attached them to the email before sending it. Inspite of having being powered on for a long time, the laptop was not tired. The credit went to the 3 cell battery which gave an amazing life to the unit.
When everything was done, the Rivers family drove Grandma to her home. Kissing Sam and Trinity on their foreheads, she got out the car. She thanked them with gratitude in her eyes and watched them as they drove off.
The Rivers family were happy that they could help Grandma. They spent the evening hoping that Mr Clarke would reply.
Grandma spent the evening thanking God for the hope that had rekindled in her heart.
The next morning, an excited Trinity exclaimed, “Father, Sam, please come here. Look, there is a reply from Mr Clarke!” The trio immediately rushed to Grandma’s home with the LG X110 10” Notebook to give her the good news.
