The Sony Vaio E Series Laptops have been designed by Sony for delivering stylish, entertainment focussed workstations at affordable prices. Sony Vaio products have often been one level above the rest of the crowd, when it came to pricing. But, they’ve also had something out of the ordinary to offer. The New Sony Vaio W Series Eco-friendly Laptops

The upgraded Sony Vaio W series laptops have some green credentials along with some enhanced components compared to the older W series laptops. This eco-friendly W series also sport 3 hues - cocoa brown (VPCW12S1E/T), pink (VPCW12S1E/P) and sugar white (VPCW12S1E/W). The attractive Sony Vaio aesthetics, which are part of all other Sony Vaio products are seen in these workstations as well.

The W series netbooks are 10.1″ display devices, which offer a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels each. The Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor has been employed. A maximum of 1GB DDR2 RAM is supported. The hard drive that ships in the netbooks is a 250GB capacity one. The Intel GMA 950 GPU handles graphics processing. The Windows 7 Starter edition comes pre-installed in the devices.

A long array of interfaces sit along the sides of the Sony Vaio W series netbook. There are 2 USB ports, a VGA output, a microphone jack and a headphone jack. Plus, the Sony trademarked Memory Stick slot that reads Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo is as well present. Thankfully an SD card slot is also housed in the netbooks.

The Sony Vaio W Netbooks allow linking to the internet at WiFi hotspots and wired Ethernet connection. Bluetooth is supported too for wireless data exchange with proficient devices.

These workstations are equipped with high definition stereo speakers. There is a 0.3MP web camera built within too.

These netbooks use recycled material for their packaging. The company also claims that their products are developed using vegetable-based plastics, which can be recycled.

The Sony Vaio W Series Netbook has been priced at £349.99. It is said to be available during February 2010.

Sony Vaio Z Series Makeover

Sony have given a make-over to the Sony Vaio Z series laptop - the Z890. No. Not on the outside. Only on the inside. The re-modelled Sony Vaio Z890 notebook was displayed at CES 2010, Las Vegas. The exquisite carbon fibre and magnesium exterior has been retained. So is the 13.3″ widescreen which has a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. That’s higher than most other notebooks of the same size.

The Sony Vaio Z890 now features the 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 540M processor and a 4GB DDR3 RAM. The hard drive is completely ousted by a solid state drive. You get options of 128GB, 256GB and 384GB SSDs. Solid state drives are faster than hard drives and do not have mechanical moving parts too.

The Sony Vaio Z890 too, incorporates the hot-switching GPU feature, like the Alienware M11x netbook, which has also displayed at CES 2010. The Sony Vaio laptop integrates both the NVidia GeForce 310M and an Intel GMA GPU. A physical setting called Hybrid Dynamic Switch will allow switching between these graphics processors, while the laptop is powered on. The NVidia graphics can be used while gaming and the Intel graphics for general computation. This will increase power efficiency of the device as well.

WiFi and Bluetooth are also supported by this notebook. The connectors present on-board are 2 USB ports, a n ExpressCard slot, an HDMI output, a Firewire port, an SD card slot and a Memory Stick slot. An optical drive is also housed in this notebook.

The price of the classy, yet powerful Sony Vaio Z890 Laptop is $1,899 in the US. The UK availability and pricing details are yet to be revealed.

Sony Vaio NW20SF/S Laptop

The Sony Vaio NW20SF/S is a typical laptop that bridges the gap between entertainment and portability. It packs in sufficient features to keep you entertained, and also does not weigh as much as the desktop replacements. Hence it is relatively portable.
