Secondly, it offers a good set of specifications that can make mobile computing convenient. And the third and most appreciative is the 8.5 hour long battery life. Moreover, this is an affordable netbook too.

The Intel Atom N280 1.66 GHz processor performs the internal program execution. A 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive are integrated into this ultramobile PC. The RAM can be extended up to 2GB as well. Toshiba NB205 ships with the Microsoft Windows XP Home Operating System.

On the display front, this mini laptop has a 10.1” 1024 x 600 pixels screen. The Intel GMA 950 has been integrated for handling motion pictures. Networking aspects include support for WiFi as well as Ethernet connectivity. Bluetooth support is offered too. There are also 3 USB ports, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, a VGA connector and a 3-in-1 card reader.

The keyboard seems well designed with spaces between keys. The track-pad too looks big enough for comfortable usage. A 0.3 Megapixel web camera is present as well. 2 stereo speakers have also been packed into the Toshiba NB205.

This workstation is expected to be available in 2 configurations – one with a chiclet keyboard, metallic finish which will adorn 4 garbs – Indigo Blue, Sable Brown, Posh Pink and Frost White. The second with a flat keyboard and a black matte finish. The former will be a little more expensive than the latter. Overall the price of Toshiba NB205 Ultra-portable Netbook would range from £260 to £300.

Four New Toshiba Satellite Laptops

The Toshiba Satellite L550 Laptop is the largest among the foursome, with a 17.3” 1600 x 900 pixels screen. This screen employs power saving LED back-light technology. The Toshiba Satellite L500 Laptop has a 15.6” screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Both these laptops feature the HD TruBrite display technology. They share common specifications otherwise as well. You can choose between an Intel processor and an AMD processor for either of the laptops. The hard drives have a capacity of 500GB. A DVD drive each is also present in the mobile computers. Internet connectivity can be achieved either with the wired Ethernet connection or with WiFi. Bluetooth compatibility is offered as well. Ports and connections featured include an HDMI socket, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA/USB combination port, a 4-in-1 bridge media slot and a VGA camera with Toshiba’s native face recognition technology.

The Toshiba Satellite A500 Notebook is a 16 incher widescreen multimedia and gaming device, with a display resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It has a TV tuner built into it. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor will be powering up this machine from the inside. You can opt for an AMD processor too. A spacious 8GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive or a 64GB solid state drive are as well present. For graphics, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD GPU is employed and a 1GB memory is reserved for graphics. This notebook also sports HDMI ports with the REGZA LINK technology. Harman Kardon speakers are  used in this laptop too.

The Toshiba Satellite U500 Notebook is the smallest among the lot. It has a 13.3” screen which presents a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. On the inside, you will find an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB RAM, 500GB hard drive and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 GPU. It is expected to be available in Brown Luxe.

Either of these laptops are integrated with a DVD drive, a high definition web camera and a 5-in-1 card reader each. They have multi-touch touchpads too. Wifi and Bluetooth are supported by both notebooks as well.

The battery life offered is also low compared to other gaming laptops available in the market. However, the features look quite promising to provide a great gaming experience.

Toshiba’s new 512GB SSD Notebook

Hard disk drives have always offered more storage capacities when compared to solid state drives. And SSDs have always been faster than HDDs. With the advent of this new kind of SSD, maybe hard disks might face extinction soon.

Most SSDs available in the market had storage spaces of 32GB or 64GB or 128GB. These drives used single-level cell NAND flash memory. The new 512GB SSD from Toshiba uses the native second generation eSATA technology, with a multi-level cell NAND flash memory for increasing the capacity of storage. However, the speeds offered by the lower capacity SSDs will be higher than that of the 512GB SSD. But when compared to hard disk drives, the 512GB SSD will definitely operate faster. The booting time, the starting up of applications, access times will all be much faster with this notebook than others with HDDs. The new SSD is expected to offer a read speed of 240Mbps and a write speed of 200Mbps.

The resolution offered by this LCD monitor is 1280 x 800 pixels. The processor employed is the Intel Ultra Low Voltage Core 2 Duo SU94005. A 3GB RAM is also present in this ultraportable laptop. For handling graphics the Intel GMA 4500MHD card has been integrated. A SuperMulti DVD burner is on board this UMPC as well. The operating system pre-loaded is the Microsoft Windows Vista Business OS. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity are supported too. The case of this device is tough, durable and can withstand shocks and jerks. Cost-wise, SSDs still remain more expensive than HDDs. Hence this laptop does carry a heavy price tag. It is expected to priced at about £2300 and we keep fingers crossed for a UK release.
