HP Mini 5102 Netbook

The HP Mini 5102 Netbook is a rugged device, that’s meant for everyday travel. Moreover, it has features which makes it quite resistive to many of the daily probable manhandles. Plus there are plenty of options to customise it according to your needs.

First of all, it has a spill-proof keyboard. Then there is the HP DriveGuard accelerator technology, which is quite intuitive and safeguards the hard drive when it detects sudden jerks or shocks. So if the laptop accidentally slips from your hand, there will be no data loss. The laptop is encased in aluminium with a magnesium base, which makes it quite tough. Plus there is a handle which can be used to carry it around.

This is a highly interesting netbook with a 10.1″ touchscreen display and choices in almost all its specs. For the screen you can choose between 1024×600 and 1366×768 pixels resolution. Either the Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor or the Intel Atom N470 1.83GHz processor can be chosen for handling the processing in this device. The RAM capacity is 1GB and can be upgraded to 2GB as well. The hard drive included in the base model has a storage space of 160GB. You can even opt for 250GB or 320GB hard drives too. This netbook reportedly lets you have a 128GB SSD also. However, at this point of time it is doubtful if this option will be available in all markets. The Intel GMA 3150GPU is employed for graphics processing.

The operating system can be one of Windows 7 starter edition or SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. This netbook also offers WiFi, optional GPS, Bluetooth and a 2MP web camera with face recognition utility. For the battery too, you can opt for a 4-cell or a 6-cell one. While the former is expected to deliver about 5 hours of life, the latter is said to give about 10 hours.

The HP Mini 5102 Rugged Netbook gives choices in terms of the case colours as well. It is expected to arrive in red, black and blue colour schemes. In the US, this netbook is supposed to carry a base price tag of $399. The UK release and pricing details are yet to be announced.
