Microsoft have come out with an attractive offer for students in the UK. They will be selling their latest Windows 7 operating system for just £30 to college and university students. The offer starts from October 1, 2009, and will last for a limited period only.
People with a valid educational email address, ending with .ac.uk are eligible for this offer. The Microsoft website also mentions that only the students with a PC running the genuine Windows Vista or Windows XP OS, which is capable of running the Windows 7 as well, can avail the offer. PC requirements for Windows 7 compatibility include a processor of atleast 1GHz clock speed, RAM of atleast 1GB for 32-bit processors & atleast 2GB for 64-bit processors, hard drive free space of atleast 16GB for 32-bit machines & 20GB for 64-bit machines and DirectX 9 with WDDM 1.0 or higher for graphics.
The Microsoft store is also accepting pre-orders for the Windows 7 OS for others. You can get upgrade editions as well as full editions. While the upgrade editions cost £79.99 for Home Premium, £189.99 for Professional and £199.99 for Ultimate; the full editions are priced at £149.99 for Home Premium, £219.99 for Professional and £229.99 for Ultimate.
You can get an equivalent package of Windows 7 OS for free if you upgrade or purchase the Windows Vista OS. The offer stared on June 26, 2009 and is valid till the release date of the Windows 7 OS. The product will be available from October 22, 2009.
Moreover, certain laptops like the Asus’ new Unlimited range of laptops, will allow a free upgrade to Windows 7. While some others will ship with the OS, like the Nokia Booklet 3G and the Acer Ferrari One.
