Intel’s Multiple Screen Laptop – Tangent Bay

Intel's Mullti-screen Laptop - LaptopReviews.org.ukIntel's Tangent Bay Laptop - LaptopReviews.org.ukWe’ve seen multiple screen laptops in the past. The Asus Dual Panel Notebook, the gScreen G400 and the Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds are the popular ones. They all featured dual screens. Now Intel’s Tangent Bay Laptop, out-beats them all, with 4 screens. This laptop has one main LCD screen with 3 more smaller OLED displays located just above the keyboard.

The 3 auxiliary screens are all multi-touch capable. You can use these screens to play files and maybe launch applications, avoiding crowding of the main screen. You can even drag and drop (drag and fling actually) files between the screens, as seen in the CNET video.

Intel’s Tangent Bay Multiscreen Laptop is attracting a lot of attention at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), that is currently being held at San Francisco. There’s no word about availability, pricing, deals and offers yet. Though this novel idea is unique and innovative, it still remains to see how ergonomic and useful this new device can be.

That’s four screens in total. Crazy, right? The prototype’s three mini-screens let you organize and play files without taking up room on the main display. You can also use multi-touch gestures, and drag files between screens. Watch it in action:

This week’s Intel Developer’s Forum has a history of weird and wonderful prototypes. As it has with MIDs and UMPCs, the company uses concepts to as reference platforms in the hopes that manufacturers will take interest and use its chips. No word if anyone has signed up on this one, but it’s a nice juicy insight of what type of products might be around the corner. [Crave Asia]
