Apple sets record share of laptop market

Nearly one laptop of Apple in every ten notebooks were sold in the second quarter of the year 2010 with the company’s logo, thereby increasing the company’s share of the laptop market.
According to the research firm Gartner, the share of Apple in the US laptop market had increased to 9.8 per cent from a market share of 9.1 per cent during the second quarter of the year 2009.  This was a record for the company. The figure shows  an increase in the actual sales of 24.7 per cent since last year.
Apple’s iPad was not included in the study as the introduction of new category of a product ate away the market of the other already existing products.
According to principal analyst at Gartner, Mikako Kitagawa, the popularity of Apple’s iPad cannibalised consumer notebook sales and mini-notebooks to some extent.
She also said that it was not sure if the cannibalisation would continue with the same price.
As per  the data released, the desktop PCs outsold the laptops as a result of the increase in IT spending by the enterprise market.
