Cloud Computing- The latest Techno-Hoopla
Posted on July 16, 2009

Cloud computing-It has been on the lane throughout the past decade. It has been hyped much and heralded as a breakthrough by the technocrats. Cloud computing allows corporates and big concerns to indulge in computing without using lots of hardware devices. While numerous US companies are planning to embark on this cloud computing technology, Ethiopia has already enrolled and working on Azure- the cloud platform of Microsoft. About 250,000 laptops have been issued to the school teachers throughout the nation and all the laptops runs on Azure. This cloud computing platform will enable the teachers to store the academic records, to transfer student’s data, safely, download curriculum, without the help of bulk hardwares and other support systems.
Doug Hauger, the general manager of Windows Azure at Microsoft, has said that “It extends reach of technology into the community that can take huge benefit from these services and yet may have not had access to it in the short term because of infrastructure requirements,”. Microsoft believes that cloud computing technology has the power to reduce the time and cost of building hardwares and designing applications for massive usage. But safety emerges as a matter of concern, when it comes to the storing of important documents and classified information.

I? so agree with Larry's sentiments about cloud computing used as a buzzword. I can't stand people lecturing me about “getting in the cloud” when they have no idea what they are talking about.
thx for kind words & RT on my blog post Roundup of Cloud Computing Forecasts; glad to be of service
