Dell have started packaging their laptops and netbooks using bamboo materials. A report from EEEPC.net mentions that Dell is the first IT manufacturer to make product packages with bamboo material.
Bamboo is supposed to be biodegradable and renewable. It is also supposed to be a good alternative to paper pulp and foam, which are currently being utilized in the packaging of products. There are other advantages of using bamboo for packaging devices. It grows fast, it is strong, it also prevents soil erosion and helps make the soil healthy.
Using such material in packaging, brings down packaging costs too. There is also news that by spring 2010, many more Dell products will be shipped in bamboo cases.
