Freecom Hard Drive XS 3.0 To Hit Stores In Mid-November
Posted on September 28, 2009
Freecom Hard Drive XS 3.0 has 2 special features. First, it will come in capacities ranging from 1TB (=1024GB) to 2TB, with a 1.5TB in between. Secondly, this external hard drive will feature a USB 3.0 connection. The Freecom external hard drive is supposed to be the first device to sport the new USB port.
The Freecom hard drive will also hold records for other features – it is reportedly the smallest 3.5″ desk-top hard drive. That’s not all, this device is supposed to achieve data transfer rates of almost 130Mbps.
The USB 3.0 port housed in this external hard drive is backward compatible as well, allowing consumers to connect the device to laptops, computers and notebooks with USB 2.0 connectivity. The new port can offer data transfer speeds of up to 500Mbps. In order to make the hard drive reach these speeds, USB 3.0 controller cards must be used. While these cards cost £23 for a desktop PC, they are priced at £26 for laptops.
The Freecom Hard Drive XS 3.0 will start shipping some time in mid-November, at a price of about £99.99 for the 1TB capacity drive.
