HP Data Protector For Laptop Data Back-up

November 20, 2009

HP have come out with a software - the HP Data Protector Notebook Extension that takes continuous back-ups of data on people’s laptops. When online, the backed-up information is stored in a data vault. When offline, a local data repository stores the necessary files. This will then be updated into the data vault when online.

In case of a hard drive crash or laptop theft, valuable data will not be lost, which would otherwise have led to the spending of huge amounts for data recovery. This is estimated to be £1,800 approximately. But with the HP Data Protector installed, if there is a hard drive crash, the latest back-up stored in the vault will be used to restore data.

The data to be backed up can be set by the administrator. Even those files that are open and other snapshots can be backed up.

For the HP Data Protector to be used, a client agent and the software must be present on the laptop. The central datacentre vault should also be running.

The Data Protector software costs about €1,500 and the Extension costs about €30.
