HP are now offering an iTunes-like digital music service for their customers. This service called the HP MusicStation has been developed by Omnifone. HP customers can avail the service by subscribing to it. The monthly charge for it in the UK is £8.99. There’s a 2-week trial period as well. Consumers can get unlimited music downloads after subscribing to the service. They will be able to listen to the music that they have downloaded, when both online and offline.
HP will as well be integrating the MusicStation in plenty of their forthcoming laptops and desktop PCs. People who buy such laptops and PCs are supposed to be getting a 2-week free trial period, after which they’ll have to subscribe to the service for further usage. Customers will also be eligible to receive 10 music tracks, free every month, which they can keep for a lifetime.
The cut-throat competition at the PC/Laptop maker level requires these manufacturers to increasingly offer something different and highly desired. Digital music is something that will always have great demand. Rob Lewis, CEO of Omnifone has mentioned that digital music provides [device makers] an opportunity to appeal to consumers directly.
The HP MusicStation will initially be available in 10 European countries, namely, the UK, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria and Belgium. Monthly subscriptions vary from country to country.
Apart from the galaxy of music this station provides, such digital music service is also expected to reduce piracy and illegal sharing of music files.
