Intel releases Dual Core Atom, N550

Intel has come out with a dual-core Atom for netbooks with the name N550. This system is built with a chip that holds a 8.5W max TDP and is 64-bit capable. This is built to support up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM. This dual-core is clocked at 1.5GHz. The CPU of the system is manufactured with a 45nm process and is supported with hyper-threading just like the previous Atoms.

Based on  a press release from Intel, the company has launched Atom chips in the year 2008 and has sold 70 million Atom chips since then. Also the models from Asus, Acer, Lenova, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, MSI and other companies are doing the sale now.

Based on a report from DigiTimes, Intel will remove the restriction on the panel size for the new chips. This will create a way for Intel to compete with the new Athlon Neo II processors from AMD and the new netbook platform that will be released in the future.

Asus will be the first to come out with netbooks that are based on the new dual core 1.5GHz N550Atom.
