MSI Wind U160DX Boasts of 15-hours of Battery Life

We had just been talking about the Samsung N230 netbook with its fascinating 13.5 hours of battery life, when MSI pulled covers off its MSI Wind U160DX netbook, which is supposed to deliver 15 hours of life. Apart from the battery life, the other MSI Wind U160DX specs are pretty mediocre.

This is a 10-inch 1024 x 600 pixels screen netbook, which is powered by the Intel Atom N455 processor, which has a clock speed of 1.66GHz. A 2GB DDR3 RAM and a 160GB hard drive, are integrated within. This netbook runs on the Windows 7 Starter edition. WiFi, wired Ethernet connection and Bluetooth are supported. MSI will as well be launching 3.5G compatible models in select markets. The connectivity set consists of the standard 3 USB ports, a VGA port, 2-in-1 card reader (for SD and MMC), the audio jacks and the Ethernet port. A 1.3MP camera is present in this netbook too.

There is an option of choosing between a 3-cell and a 6-cell battery. Guesses are that the 6-cell battery should be the one that delivers the 15-hours of life. MSI have reportedly implemented some ECO Engine power saving technology for achieving this life. Like most netbooks which do not deliver the specified battery life, it still remains to see how accurate MSI’s claims are.

The pricing and release details are yet to be announced.
