after the haiti earthquake OLPC Encourages Donation of Unused XO Laptops to Haiti

The One Laptop Per Child group is encouraging people to donate their unused XO Laptops to children in Haiti, which suffered a massive earthquake on January 12, 2010. The death count is supposed to have crossed 150,000 in the region, which is now reduced to rubble.

The OLPC, which is a non-profit organisation have pitched in to help. They are asking people to send unused XO laptops to the US, to be passed on to the children in Haiti. The group is as well encouraging people to send in broken laptops for recycling.

Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of OLPC, has mentioned that 75% of schools in Port au Prince had been destroyed. He went on to say that the Haitian team was unhurt by good fortune. The group is now working in coordination with the government and the NGOs to send XO laptops to the children in Haiti, who do not have a school to go to.
