Touchscreen Technology embedded in XO 1.75 Laptop

According to Chris Bell, the scheme’s lead software engineer, multitouch technology will be featured in the next laptop that is designed by the One Laptop Per Child foundation. The XO 1.75 will be launched next year and the future generation of the low cost computers are expected to come with new development features such as the multitouch technology.

The XO 1.75 will run on Fedora Linux, featuring either a touchscreen interface or a normal 8.9 inch LCD display. The laptop will also come with an ARM processor, in spite of the open source Fedora operating system that does not work with the ARM processors.

XO 3 tablet PC will not be the OLPC’s first foray in to touchscreen technology but the XO 1.75 will soon become the first OLPC notebook.  The XO tablet will not be released until 2012, a year later than the release of XO 1.75 though both the tablets are expected to come with price not higher than $100.
The latest departure from the OLPC’s original XO laptop is represented by the use of touchscreen technology, which has been improved and adapted for a variety of different audiences.
