Packard Bell’s dot s and dot m Netbooks

packard bell dot s Packard Bells dot s and dot m NetbooksPackard Bell recently launched 2 new netbooks that are targeted at mobile business computation – the Packard Bell dot s Netbook and the Packard Bell dot m Netbook. These portable PCs have the regular netbook features, nothing outstanding. Their cases have a plastic finish. Yet they do feel sturdy to the touch.

The dot s netbook is the smaller one in the duo. It sports a 10.1” 1024 x 600 pixels screen. The keys are concave in structure and are highly responsive. The touch-pad is small, yet responsive and offers multi-touch capabilities. It can even interpret touch gestures for zooming in or out, scrolling and more. The internal operations are handled by the Intel Atom N280 processor. The RAM has a capacity of 1GB. The hard drive has a storage space of 160GB. The operating system that is compatible with this ultraportable laptop is the Microsoft Windows XP OS. On the networking front, it supports WiFi, wired Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity. Being 3G capable, this device will as well offer high speeds of internet access. A VGA webcam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a 5-in-1 card reader and a VGA output are built into this mobile computer. There are 2 stereo speakers and this small workstation supports a Dolby headphone too. This netbook does look attractive with its black-red colour combination.

The trackpad offers multi-touch capability as well. This ultraportable computer will ship in 2 configurations – one with an Intel Atom processor, a 1GB RAM and Windows XP OS, and the other with an AMD processor, a 2GB RAM and Windows Vista OS. Though the AMD processor is less powerful, the 2GB RAM might compensate for this. The hard drive capacity is 160GB. This netbook too, like the dot s, offers WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet connectivity. It is 3G proficient as well. A 5-in-1 card reader, 3 USB ports, a D-SUB port, a web camera and an Ethernet socket have all been packed into this mobile PC. A regular black hued netbook, the dot m mini laptop does look good.

The Packard Bell dot s 10″ Netbook will be priced at £299 and the Packard Bell dot m 11.6″ Netbook will cost about £349. These portable PCs are expected to start shipping from June or July 2009.
