At IFA 2009, held in Berlin, Samsung presented their latest additions to the slim X-Series laptops – Samsung X520 Laptop, Samsung X420 Laptop and Samsung X120 Notebook. While the X120 is an 11.6” screen notebook, the X420 is a 14” screen laptop and the X520 is a 15.6” screen laptop.
All 3 laptops have provision for inserting a 3G SIM card for high speed internet access. WiFi and Bluetooth will be supported as well. Not many specifications are revealed yet. However, the presence of 3 USB ports, a 3-in-1 memory card reader, a VGA port and an HDMI output is confirmed. An Intel Dual Core processor will be used for processing. These mobile computers are coated with an anti-scratch UV coating and have a glossy finish.
Special security features have been incorporated in the trio for safe guarding the data within. First of all, the webcams integrated in these laptops, take a photograph when started. If an unauthorised user is detected, the laptops are automatically disabled. Moreover, there is an option to remotely delete data stored in the laptops too.
Another interesting aspect about the Samsung X-Series laptops is their battery lives. With 6-cell batteries each, they are capable of delivering 9 hours of life. For video playback, a 6-hour battery life is expected too. The X120 will feature a 4-cell battery. The weights of the X120, the X420 and the X520 are 1.36kg, 1.76kg and 2kg respectively.
The new Samsung X-Series Slim Laptops are anticipated in the market by October this year. The Windows 7 OS is also expected to be released during this same time. The trio will be powered by Windows Vista Home Premium OS and will most probably allow free upgrading to Windows 7. The X120 is speculated to be priced at 480GBP. The others will range in price from GBP 699 (~£610) to GBP 899 (~£780). Right now there’s no news about the laptop deals and laptop offers that will ship with them.
